Despite Buttercup being presumed to be the tuxedo cat in The Hunger Games film, he has been shown to be ginger as described in the books. Prim’s cat Buttercup has gone from being black and white in The Hunger Games movie to ginger in Catching Fire, meaning he is now loyal to the source material. though some of this description may have been colored by Katniss hatred of him. Katniss also thinks the cat is just an extra mouth to feed. Buttercup appears momentarily in the film adaptation when Katniss says that she will attempt to cook him. Everyone in the Capitol who sees the bombing assumes that Snow is responsible for killing their children, and they turn against Snow. Buttercup, Prim’s cat who is loyal to her, hates Katniss because she once tried to kill him by drowning. Half of the bombs explode shortly after landing on the children, and the other half explode only after rebel medics (including Prim) have rushed in to help the injured children.
